Since you asked... How to change the proportions of your blog:
Basically, go into Dashboard--> Layout--> Edit HTML (which will be on top, with "Page Elements" and "Fonts and Colors"). From there, just screw around. Change one number, see the effect is, change it back, change another number, etc. etc. etc. (That's what I did!)
Scroll down, past the variable definitions, past "Header" with a bunch of ---------s under it, down to "Outer-Wrapper."
In "Outer Wrapper," you will have options like "outer wrapper," "main wrapper," and "sidebar wrapper." The outer wrapper is the whole blog; the main wrapper is your posting area; the sidebar wrapper is, well, your sidebar. Adjust their widths to the pixel numbers that you want. (You'll have to play around here. The "preview" button is perfect for this.)
When playing around with various widths, keep some basic math in mind: "main wrapper" + "sidebar wrapper" must be less than or equal to "outer wrapper." Otherwise your contents will overflow the width of the page you want to put it all on!
